Star Wars Pushes Disney Past $6 Billion Mark for 2017

Walt Disney are expected to today cross the $6 billion mark for box office takings in 2017 alone.

The ongoing success of Star Wars: The Last Jedi has propelled them towards – and, shortly, over – the  worldwide milestone, marking the second consecutive year they have crossed $6 billion, while becoming the only studio to break the $5 billion barrier for three years running.

In the US alone, Disney become the only studio to pass $2 billion for three consecutive years, whilst 2017 also saw Disney have four movies post $100+ million domestic debuts.

Other than The Last Jedi’s box office dominance, Disney’s other big successes this year have come from Beauty and the Beast, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Thor: Ragnarok.
