Disney & Fox Hold Talks Which Could See X-Men Join MCU

Walt Disney have held talks with 21st Century Fox over a buyout.

The Hollywood Reporter are claiming that discussions were held over the last few weeks for a deal which would see Disney acquire a large majority of the Fox assets, including the movie and television divisions. This of course would see Marvel Studios reclaim rights to some of their comic book characters such as the X-Men and Fantastic Four.

Fox are looking to hold a firmer position in news and sports, with the company also looking to purchase British Sky Broadcasting to strengthen that position.

For their part, Disney’s interest in this possible deal would give them even more content for the planned streaming service containing all Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars movies that would compete with Netflix. Disney have already begun preparing for that by retracting all Pixar and Disney-branded content from Netflix.

Discussions between Disney and Fox have now stopped, though sources say that they could resume in the near future.
