Once Upon a Time has been handed a seventh season, though several cast members will not be returning.
ABC’s fairy tale series was on the bubble regarding a new season, with many fans shocked earlier this week with the announcement by star Jennifer Morrison that she would not be returning for a new series, should a renewal be confirmed.
Co-star Rebecca Mader then followed this up by announcing that she too would not be returning, before ABC made it official that the show would return for a new series, however there would be a ‘reset’, with the story’s narrative switching focus to a young adult male and 10-year old girl. Regulars Lana Parrilla, Robert Carlyle and Colin O’Donoghue will be staying on for the new series.
The network have also confirmed that Ginny Goodwin (Snow White), Josh Dallas (Prince Charming), Jared Gilmore (Henry) and Emilie de Ravin (Belle) will be departing, though show creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis have said in a statement that viewers may not have seen the last of them yet;
“Never have we had the privilege of working with a more talented group of collaborators. Each brought unique talent, incredible intelligence, and their own individual bit of magic as they gave life to these iconic characters. We can’t thank them enough for the hard work, dedication and passion they delivered day in and day out. Without them there would be no Once Upon a Time.”
As Once continues, this group will always be the beating heart of the show. And even though we won’t be with them every week, in a show about magic and hope, we fervently believe it won’t be the last we see of them. “
The current season of Once Upon a Time ends this coming week with a two-hour season finale.
