Patrick Stewart has revealed that while Logan represents the current planned end of Charles Xavier’s X-Men universe appearances on the big screen, there is one thing that may lead to him reprising the role.
Stewart appears as Xavier in Logan – his seventh appearance as the character – and he has recently announced that this is the last time he will play Professor X in the X-Men franchise. However, speaking to MTV, Stewart gave an interesting answer when asked if this is truly it for him suiting up Xavier once and for all;
“I would have said yes, but the discussion just now about Deadpool makes me think, well, maybe there is a proper justification for the revival of Charles Xavier.”
Of course, he is talking about the speculated Wolverine vs Deadpool crossover movie, something that Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, has also confirmed he would be interested in. Jackman also recently announced his intention to retire as Logan/Wolverine after the new movie.
Despite the fan speculation, and believed interest in the project from Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, Fox have yet to officially comment on any potential crossover movie. With Deadpool 2 due out next year, and X-Force following that, it may be quite some time – if at all – until we see Wolverine and Professor X on the big-screen again.
