WWE have announced that The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express are to be inducted into the 2017 Class of the Hall of Fame.
Comprised of Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, the team are probably best-known for their epic battles in the NWA and Mid-South Wrestling with the Midnight Express, as well as their famed run in the NWA, which included four Tag-Team championship reigns and a prominent position in the company during its emergence from a regional promotion to a national entity.
Moving onto Jim Cornette’s Smoky Mountain Wrestling in the early 90s, the Express waged war with the Heavenly Bodies, a feud which briefly crossed over into the WWF in 1993.
They returned to the WWF in 1998, as part of Cornette’s NWA faction angle, before leaving the company later that year. Most recently, they appeared on TNA’s Total Nonstop Deletion special.
Morton and Gibson join Kurt Angle in this year’s Class, with more names to be announced in the coming weeks. The ceremony will take place at the Amway Centre in Orlando on March 31, two days before WrestleMania 33.
