You may remember that some time ago it was announced that a reboot of 80s/90s classic DuckTales was in the works for popular kids channel Disney XD.
While excitement has no doubt been building, announcements regarding the new show have been a little on the light side, especially in regards to who would be voicing the many characters. Until now, that is…
The full cast for the new DuckTales have finally been revealed and to say it’s incredible would be an understatement. Leading the star-studded cast is former Doctor Who and Marvel’s Jessica Jones villain David Tennant as the voice of Scrooge McDuck. Tennant is more than familiar with kids TV, more recently appearing on the highly successful CBeebies show Tree Fu Tom. If that wasn’t enough, the Scotsman will be joined by Danny Pudi (Community), Ben Schartz (Parks and Recreation), and Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live) as Scrooge’s trio of nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie.
Beck Bennett (Saturday Night Live) will be voicing clumsy pilot Launchpad McQuack, Toks Olagundoye (Castle) will play Mrs Beakley and Kate Micucci will complete the main cast as Webby Vanderquack.
The cast announcement was accompanied by an amazing tribute to the original series which sees all of the new voice actors singing the original theme, a fan favourite. You can watch the video above and let the nostalgia kick in.
The new series will again follow the adventures of millionaire miser Scrooge McDuck and his grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie and introduce Donald Duck as a regular addition.
The reboot will also benefit from new versions of the extended cast of characters including; Duckworth, Gyro Gearloose, Flintheart Glomgold, and villians from the original the Beagle Boys, Magica DeSpell & Poe.
Drawing inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks’ comics and with a hint of Indiana Jones (which Disney now own), Ducktales set the standard for Disney animated entertainment on TV and led to something of a golden age in the 90’s with shows like Talespin, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck.
DuckTales premieres on Disney XD Summer 2017.
