Moana’s First Full Trailer Enters a World of Polynesian Folklore

Moana, Disney’s newest big animated adventure, has received its first full-length trailer, ahead of its official release on November 23.

Moana encircles the daughter of a Hawaiian cheif, who embarks on a perilous adventure throughout mythical Oceania to place a sacred stone. Moana (played by Auli’i Cravalho) won’t be going it alone, however, as her journey will be guided by the ancient demigod, Maui (Dwayne Johnson). According to Walt Disney Animation Studios (via. Polygon), the young protagonist will be faced with “enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.”

While June’s brief teaser gave us a closer look at Dwayne Johnson’s Maui, this new trailer finally gives us a better idea at what we can expect from Disney’s newest princess. Calling the ocean “a friend of mine”, the hero seems to have a deep connection with the sea, and is shown harnessing the ways of the waters in a playful hi-five moment. Although not much of her apparent powers is directly shown in the trailer, we can probably expect to see her true power tested as she squares up against the unnerving “Realm of Monsters.”

Moana is scheduled for release on November 23, starring Auli’i Cravalho in the title role and Dwayne Johnson as Maui. Also slated to appear in the film are actors Nicole Scherzinger, Alan Tudyk, Jermaine Clement, Temuera Morrison and Rachel House.
