With Doctor Strange rapidly heading our way, and work ongoing on Thor: Ragnarok, you couldn’t blame Marvel Studios for not having full focus on Avengers: Infinity War right now – not to mention their famed reluctance to give much away. However, with filming due to start in November, and sources always around to offer inside knowledge, we may have our first information on what we may see in the next big ensemble outing.
According to Latino Review, the plot for the movie will actually be derived from the Infinity Gauntlet comic crossover, which saw Thanos get his hands (or fingers, technically) on the Infinity Gems, as opposed to the actual Infinity War series in which Adam Warlock battled Magus. As it stands, neither of those characters are set to appear on the big screen.
The site goes on to claim that the movie will see Thanos attempt to collect the Gems in order to impress a female character who will be the personification of Death. His reckoning, it seems, is that by collecting all the Stones, he can destroy a large percentage of the universe and therefore bring her the required amount of souls it would take for Her to love him.
Yes, Marvel want to give Thanos a love interest.
Some fans are speculating that Death could be portrayed by Cate Blanchett’s Hela, who will appear in Thor: Ragnarok next year. Certainly, it would be a big boost for the Marvel marketing team to have an actress the calibre of Blanchett at their disposal.
Of course, all this should be taken with a pinch of salt at the moment, and it is unlikely that we are going to get any kind of concrete confirmation any time soon over the film’s plot. What we do know for now is that the usual Avengers crew – though we’re going to need a new Captain America following Steve Rogers’ relinquishing of the shield in Civil War – will be back for battle, as well as Nick Fury and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is also likely to feature.
As stated, filming on Infinity War begins in November, working towards a 4 May 2018 release.
