Dr. Neo Cortex and Lord Kaos Playable in Skylanders Imaginators

It looks like Crash Bandicoot won’t be returning alone in Skylanders Imaginators this October, as it’s now been confirmed that his dastardly creator, Dr. Neo Cortex is also headed to the game.

Cortex will appear in Imaginators as a playable character, and will be available to purchase alongside Crash as part of a Special Edition Starter Pack, exclusive to PlayStation consoles. According to Forbes, the Crash pack will be brought to other consoles “later in the holidays.”

Lex Lang – the last actor to voice the antagonist – is set to reprise his role, while Jess Harnell will also return to voice to beloved bandicoot. Skylanders’ malevolent magician, Lord Kaos will also be playable in Imaginators, to those who pre-order the game.

The block-headed scientist is introduced as a “Synchronization Celebration” takes place between Wumpa Island and the Skylands (via. True Achievements), during which the doctor attempts to  “harness the rhythmic power of the island’s celebration” with a dastardly “machine of terror.” After the device is sent out of whack by an unforeseen malfunction, Crash must rise once again against his enemy, teaming up with the plucky Skylanders to save Wumpa Island from being “syncopated right out of existence!”

The announcement was made during this year’s Gamescom, in an all-new Crash Bandicoot level, “Thumpin’ Wumpa.” As reported by True Achievements, the new level will sport much of the nostalgic gameplay native to old-school Crash, including, “TNT boxes, crabs, hazards, temple ruins, Wumpa Fruit, exploding crates” and some good old-fashioned boulder chases, courtesy of new “Crash Zones.” You can see the PS1 mascot in action below (via. Kotaku).

“You can’t have Crash Bandicoot as a guest star Skylander without his arch-nemesis Dr. Neo Cortex.” said Vicarious Visions studio head, Jen Oneal.“We approached the level as a way for us to bring the best parts of Skylanders and the best parts of Crash together into one epic adventure. Players are going to enjoy how we’ve honoured the heritage of traditional Crash games in the musically-themed, TNT crate-filled level. For fans of Crash this is going to feel like going back to the old world of Crash Bandicoot – but in gorgeous 1080p.”

A promotional trailer was also shared, showing off the game’s evil Lord Kaos engaged in some..explosive antics:

Skylanders Imaginators releases on October 14 in the UK for the PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and the Wii U.

Charlie is a platforming romantic from England, that still speaks in a fashion that died with the Elizabethan era. Having been gaming since the days of Crash Bandicoot, he champions the Playstation, and is only a little bit embarassed that Super Mario Land keeps spelling his defeat.
