Channing Tatum Set To Play Mermaid in Disney’s Splash Remake

Channing Tatum will be appearing in Disney’s remake of 1984 comedy Splash, as the film’s starring mermaid.

The original Splash followed a man (Tom Hanks) who unknowingly falls in love with a mermaid (Daryl Hannah), who saved him from drowning as a young child. The revamp is a reimagining of the original story, this time reversing the genders of the two main characters, this time with Tatum sporting the fish tail. Comedian Jillian Bell (Goosebumps, 22 Jump Street) is set to appear alongside the 21 Jump Street actor, who’ll be saved by Tatum as a young girl, only to reunite with him years later.

The film will be produced by original’s Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, alongside Anna Culp as executive producer. Reid Carolin, Peter Kieran, and Channing Tatum of production company Free Association will also be involved.

Tatum will next appear in 2017 spy sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, intended to release next June. Bell, meanwhile, will be embracing her festive spirit in upcoming Christmas flick Office Christmas Party, scheduled to hit cinemas on December 9 2016.

Charlie is a platforming romantic from England, that still speaks in a fashion that died with the Elizabethan era. Having been gaming since the days of Crash Bandicoot, he champions the Playstation, and is only a little bit embarassed that Super Mario Land keeps spelling his defeat.
