Trials on Tatooine Launches for Free On HTC Vive

As of today, VR users will get to saber-up and fight it out in new VR lightsaber battle game, Trials on Tatooine. The title releases today, and is available to download for free for the HTC Vive.

The game was presented during last weekend’s Star Wars Celebration, and sees players defending the Millenium Falcon against a swell of Imperial soldiers. You can watch the official trailer above.

Trials on Tattoine is the work of Lucasfilm and Industrial Light and Magic, and has been described as a “cinematic virtual reality experiment” by the developer.

“Developed under the guidance of Rob Bredow, Lucasfilm’s chief technology officer, and co-written by Bredow and Star Wars canon-keeper Pablo Hidalgo, Trials on Tatooine allows you to truly step into the Star Wars universe for the first time,” said the official press release (via. GameSpot), “Now anyone with a Vive can pick up a lightsaber and help defend a galaxy far, far away.”

It was also announced during the Star Wars Celebration that Jyn Erso – the heroine of upcoming anthology film Rogue One – would be joining the ranks amidst Hasbro’s line of collectible Black Series action figures.

As for the film itself – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is scheduled for release on December 16. Last month, it was confirmed that Darth Vader will be appearing in the film, though it’s currently unknown who will play the formidable Sith Lord.
