Marvel have released the first piece of concept art from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Coming via Entertainment Weekly, the art shows our lead heroes from the first film casually ignoring the massive explosion in the background. Also included are Nebula, Yondu, the inevitable merchandise monster that will be Baby Groot and new hero Mantis, played by Pom Klementieff.
Executive producer Jonathan Schwartz told the website that viewers are in for a different Groot this time around;
“He doesn’t have the wisdom and experience of that Groot. He’s a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot. The question is, is he the same Groot, just smaller? Or is he a different Groot that’s sprung up from the seed of the first Groot?”
The sequel will have a presence at this coming week’s San Diego Comic-Con, with director James Gunn revealing that there is going to be something shown off to those lucky people in Hall H.
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is due for release on 5 May 2017.
