He-Man and ThunderCats Team Up in New Comic Miniseries

Fans of classic Saturday morning cartoons might be pleased to hear that the Masters of the Universe and ThunderCats will be teaming up against the forces of evil, in an all-new comic book miniseries published by DC Comics.

The six-part adventure will be penned by Rob David, Head Writer at Mattel and Masters of the Universe Lead Creative, alongside Supervising Producer Lloyd Goldfine. Freddie E. Williams II (Batman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), meanwhile, will be handling the artwork.

The heroic greats will be brought together by the dimension-spanning scheme of ThunderCats villain, Mumm-Ra, who intends to match the Sword of Omens with none other than He-Man’s Sword of Power. After his dimension-crossing plan triggers a “cataclysmic crisis”, characters Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro, Cheetara, WilyKit and WilyKat are united with He-Man, Battlecat, Teela, Man-At-Arms and the other Masters of the Universe.

“The Masters of the Universe and the ThunderCats are both global phenomena, beloved by millions.” says DC Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras in a press release (via. Toy News), “Teaming them up for one enormous story will prove to be a publishing event that fans simply cannot miss. This is something that transcends both comic book and pop culture,”

“For everyone out there who took different action figures and teamed them up to take on the world, this one’s for you,” said David.

“The Power of Grayskull and the Great Eye of Thundera have aligned to make me the luckiest guy on all the earths!” adds artist Freddie E. Williams II. “He-Man and ThunderCats were my life when I was in grade school—family and friends knew I loved both cartoons so much. I used to pause episodes and draw from them, since they were so awesome. The He-Man/ThunderCats crossover is the fulfillment of a lifelong goal and my fanboy dream come true! I’m having a blast!”

The first issue of He-Man/ThunderCats will release on October 5 2016.
