WWE to Reintroduce Brand Extension; Smackdown To Air Live

WWE have announced that Smackdown is to air on Tuesday nights – and a new brand split is to take place.

Starting July 19, Smackdown will air live each week, and include its own “distinct roster”. Said WWE Chairman Vince McMahon in a statement on the company website;

“WWE’s flagship programs will both leverage the incredible depth of our talent roster, distinct storylines and the unpredictable nature of live TV. This move will undoubtedly build more excitement and deepen engagement with our fans around the world.”

A roster draft is expected to take place soon, though no date has yet been set.

The split comes at a good time for the company, with Seth Rollins having just returned, and names such as John Cena and Bray Wyatt due back shortly. And with plenty of wrestlers ready to fill top-line roster spaces – AJ Styles and Kevin Owens, we’re looking in your directions – the opportunity for new established stars to be made could now be infinite.
