Warner Working on Harley Quinn Spinoff

Months ahead of Suicide Squad‘s release, it looks like Warner Bros. are already making plans for the franchise to continue – with a spinoff featuring Harley Quinn.

The Hollywood Reporter are claiming that Margot Robbie is the driving force behind the project, as star and producer, with the actress taking the step of deeply researching the character after she won the role, then bringing in a writer to work on the solo project. This was then presented to Warner, who are moving forward on it.

Intriguingly, the movie is not set to be a solo Quinn outing, but instead focus on some of DC’s female heroes and villains. The website claims that Batgirl and the Birds of Prey are being mentioned. Robbie learned more about these, and many more of DC’s female characters, while she was researching Quinn.

Warner have yet to comment on the report.

A solo movie of some description featuring Quinn was expected by many ever since Suicide Squad was announced, with the character becoming one of DC Comics’ bigger ones over the years. Quinn’s comics and merchandise are big sellers for the company, and Robbie’s performances seen thus far in trailers for the movie have been widely commended.

Suicide Squad opens on August 4.
