Universal Pictures have released the official synopsis for the reboot of The Mummy.
The new version is to be set in London, and will feature an ancient queen coming back to life in the modern day. Step forward Tom Cruise to save the day, and without a doubt do plenty of running.
Universal are planning a movie universe based on their monster characters, with The Mummy the first in what they plan will be a series of inter-connected feature films.
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
The Mummy stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Sofia Boutella, Jake Johnson and Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe, and is scheduled for a 9 June 2017 release.
