After taking a step back following dominance in the 1990s, Paramount are now going at warp speed with Star Trek promotion ahead of global 50th Anniversary celebrations going on across the summer. With a brief teaser released this week for a new TV show heading to the small screen in 2017, the studio has now released the second full trailer for Star Trek Beyond.
Last month, director Justin Lin announced that the second trailer for the next installment in the long-running sci-fi franchise would debut during a special fan event at the studio’s lot in Hollywood, which took place last night.
Unveiled by several of the cast members, included Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, the new tease brings a lot more heart back to the franchise after the first trailers explosive release. This time, the Beastie Boys have been replaced by a much more traditional sci-fi soundtrack and early narrative by Kirk himself.
The special fan event also saw the release of a new poster for the movie to coincide with the trailers release.
Star Trek Beyond sees the Enterprise crew face their toughest challenge yet as they begin their five-year mission into the furthest reaches of uncharted space. Attacked by a mysterious new enemy, Kirk and his crew become stranded on a remote planet with no means of communication. Making new alliances, it’s up to the Captain and his senior officers to reunite his crew and return to Earth.
2009’s franchise reboot Star Trek took in $643 million at the box office globally, with the 2013 follow-up Star Trek Into Darkness taking in $696 million.
Starring Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Idris Elba, Star Trek Beyond is set for release July 22.
