No Man’s Sky Gets August Release Date

Following news of delays surrounding ambitious space exploration game No Man’s Sky, it was confirmed today by Sony that the game will be arriving in August.

Originally scheduled for release on June 21, the new release date was published on the game’s official PlayStation page (via. NeoGAF). No Man’s Sky will release in North America on August 9, whilst European versions will launch the day after on August 10. In the UK, No Man’s Sky will release on August 12.

Developed by Hello Games, a small team based in the UK, No Man’s Sky uses mathematical algorithms to procedurally generate the world around the player as they explore. Comprising expansive galaxies with their own life forms and climates, there are over 18 quintillion planets to explore.

In an update on the PlayStation Blog, Hello Games founder Sean Murray commented on the game’s delay, “we realized that some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards. I have had to make the tough choice to delay the game for a few weeks to allow us to deliver something special. After a short delay, No Man’s Sky will launch in North America on August 9, in Europe August 10, and in the UK August 12.”

He continued, “We understand that this news is disappointing. Making this game is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but we are so close now, and we’re prepared to make the tough choices to get it right.”

He went on to credit his team, and commented that the game was making progress, despite the delay.

“And despite all of that, development is genuinely going well. This is the hardest working, most talented team I’ve ever worked with, and I’m so proud of what we’re doing. For all our sakes though, we get one shot to make this game and we can’t mess it up.”

No Man’s Sky has become known for its ambitious approach to design, and is arguably one of the most hyped games of 2016. Though players will have to wait a little longer until lift-off, August isn’t that far away, and with over 18 quintillion worlds to tumble into, the game could well make up for lost time.

No Man’s Sky will release on August 9 2016 in North America, August 10 2016 in Europe and August 12 2016 in the UK.
