Marvel have formally announced the casting for Thor: Ragnarok – and it’s a stellar one.
Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston return as Thor and Loki respectively, as do Idris Elba as Heimdall and Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin. Joining them will be Hemsworth’s Avengers: Age of Ultron co-star Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Cate Blanchett in the lead villain role of Hela and Creed star Tessa Thompson playing Valkyrie.
Rounding out the phenomenal cast are Independence Day star Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster and Lord of the Rings star Karl Urban as Skurge.
Marvel president Kevin Feige commented on the casting;
“The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique, and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl, and Mark to the cast we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet. The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can’t be quantified. Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honor, and having all of them is incredible.”
Taika Waititi will direct Ragnarok, which is due for release on 3 November 2017.
