Is Tom Hiddleston going to be the next James Bond? Many now seem to think he will be. Following a flurry of bets over this weekend, the Marvel star is now 2-1 favourite to replace Daniel Craig as the next 007.
The significant increase in wagers, including a particularly large one which saw bookmakers Coral suspend betting, comes after Hiddleston was reportedly spotted meeting with Bond director Sam Mendes and franchise producer Barbara Broccoli last week.
Coral said: “There is no smoke without fire, and following the big gamble on Tom Hiddleston in the last 24 hours, we’ve had no choice but to pull the plug on the market.”
Up until now, fellow Asgardian and Luther star Idris Elba was the frontrunner for the job, despite some high profile negative remarks saying he was “too street” to play Bond. Other big names considered favourites for the role included Tom Hardy, Poldark star Aidan Turner and Homeland’s Damian Lewis.
Hiddleston has previously said that playing Bond would be an “extraordinary opportunity”, describing himself as a “huge fan” of 007.
