Disney have announced that they are cancelling the Infinity line, as well as pulling out of self-publishing games altogether.
The company confirmed the news in a statement, also announcing two final releases for Infinity; Alice Through the Looking Glass later this month and then a Finding Dory set in June.
John Blackburn, the Infinity SVP and GM, said in the statement that the goal for the title was to “bring the best of Disney storytelling to life in homes around the world”.
Disney’s latest earning reports had “lower results” for Infinity than predicted, leading to this decision.
The announcement does potentially leave the door open for both the Star Wars and Marvel franchises to make a future appearance in rival toys-to-life game LEGO Dimensions. With a relationship between LEGO and Disney already firmly established and the success the game has seen in the last nine months, there is definitely a strong possibility of this happening in the near future.
