PS4 Neo Appears on Distributor’s Financial Notes

Rumours that Sony has a new, more powerful version of the PS4 in the works continue to grow. Whilst numerous sources have suggested that the new console (codenamed the PS4 Neo) will be twice as powerful as the current model and will run at 4K resolution, yet more information has surfaced on the blog of user OtaXou, pointing to the Neo’s existence.

As found by a user on NeoGAF, the blog post references a recent press release made by Innelec Multimedia, a major distribution company that deals with Microsoft, Warner Bros, Sony and many more, highlighting the financial results for the fiscal year. A ‘PS4 Neo 4k’ is mentioned within the turnover notes, alongside Sony’s PlayStation VR. The company notes can be found in full here, although they are written in French.

The fiscal forecast for 2016/2017 should be pushed by the videogame industry, during the first semester, with the arrival of the PS4 Neo 4K, an evolution of Sony’s PS4 console with new features and the release in October 2016 of the virtual reality handset the Sony VR.

This places the Neo 4K’s release date between April of this year, and October, when Sony plan to launch their VR headset. And with June rapidly approaching, it’s quite likely that Sony is planning to reveal the Neo during this year’s E3.

OtaXou infers that the Neo could coincide with the PlayStation VR in October, as the enhanced performance and implementation of 4K could help virtual reality titles run more smoothly.

That’s not all October could bring, however. Referencing a “trusted source”, the user tweeted that The Last Guardian is also set for an October launch. If this is the case, this possibly builds quite the lineup for Sony’s E3 press conference in June.

“A trusted source tells me that The Last Guardian will hit #PS4 in October in France” reads the tweet.

Sony has not yet confirmed that a new PS4 is in development, but previous sources have stated that the console will be priced at $400 (or £278). Whilst the rumours regarding the mysterious system continue to grow, it’s important to note that these stories are subject to change until the Neo is officially announced by Sony.
