Update Lets Your Sphero BB-8 Enjoy The Force Awakens With You

Fans from a galaxy far, far away are now so close to owning Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-ray and that excitement from back in December is heating up once more.

Just to make your Jedi infused movie night that little bit more engaging, Sphero, the company behind the insanely brilliant phone controlled BB-8 droid has released an update so that the little guy can fully enjoy the home viewing with you, reacting accordingly as the story progresses.

Sphero recommends that you pop him on his charging base so that he lasts the entire movie run as his battery life is sadly only an hour. Using the microphone on your phone, the little droid will recognise the audio from the movie and enjoy the action along with you. According to The Wall Street Journal, he’ll cower from Kylo Ren and whoop when Han and Chewie appear. He’ll even chirp happily away to himself when he’s rolling around on-screen.

The Sphero BB-8 has had a number of updates since his release in September, including dialogue from the Force Awakens and new holograms of C3P0 and R2-D2. Very soon you’ll even be able to use the Force with him thanks to a gesture-controlled version coming out later this year.

BB-8 is currently available on Amazon for £110 and Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out April 18 on Blu-Ray and DVD in the UK.
