To the surprise of ABSOLUTELY NO-ONE, Deadpool has officially been given a sequel.
The film was virtually guaranteed a follow-up as soon as people started flocking to the cinemas. And now, following an announcement by 20th Century Fox co-chairman Stacey Snider at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, that guarantee has become fact.
Ryan Reynolds returns in the lead role, Tim Miller returns as director, with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick also coming back to write.
No timescale yet on release, or whether the sequel’s budget will be significantly more than the $58 million spent on the first film, though Reese and Wernick have previously stated that they wouldn’t want Fox to lavish many more millions on the project, perhaps rightfully claiming that Deadpool should remain “small scale”.
Deadpool has so far taken an astounding $757 million worldwide.
