A new competitive series has been announced for Mortal Kombat X eSports.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has just announced that they will be introducing an expansion to the Mortal Kombat X eSports in the form of a new competitive series. This new series will be starting in April and will include the ESL Mortal Kombat X Pro League Season 3 and the ESL Challenger Cup, as well as official sponsorships of local tournaments across North America and Europe.
Ed Boon, Creative director of NetherRealm Studios and co-creator of Mortal Kombat, talked about the new competitive series saying “this is the biggest commitment we’ve made to the eSports scene and with our newly enhanced online experience, we’re looking forward to seeing the intense match-ups at the various tournaments we’re supporting”.
The third season of the ESL Mortal Kombat X Pro League will begin on April 3rd, with the best around the world battling it out on an 8-week online season. The 16 finalists will then meet up in Burbank, Calif on June 12th to fight for the cash prize in front of a studio audience. PlayStation 4 players will be trying to win a piece of the $200,000 prize pool.
The ESL Mortal Kombat X Challenger Cup will start on April 2nd and will allow PS4 and Xbox One owners battle online for cash and prizes. Open tournaments will be held across North America, Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States and Latin America every week in June.
And lastly, WB and NetherRealm Studios will continue to support local tournaments across North America and Europe. Players can attend the first UK competition at Hypespotting V, from 2nd to 3rd of April in Glasgow with a prize pool of £10,000. The winner of the competition will also get the chance to win a place in the Mortal Kombat XL Cup.
