Microsoft Cancels Fable Legends & Project Knoxville

Microsoft have announced today that they have ceased development on both Fable Legends and Project Knoxville. Along with both titles, Press Play Studios in Denmark has been closed and the UK based Lionhead Studios looks like it my be following suit.

A post on the Xbox Wire form the General Manager at Microsoft Studios Europe, Hanno Lemke states the following:

“After much consideration we have decided to cease development on Fable Legends, and are in discussions with employees about the proposed closure of Lionhead Studios in the UK,” says Lemke. “Additionally, we will close Press Play Studios in Denmark, and sunset development on Project Knoxville.”

“We have nothing but heart-felt thanks for the members of Lionhead and Press Play for their contributions to Xbox and gaming. We are committed to working closely with those affected by today’s news to find them new opportunities at Xbox, or partnering with the broader development community to help place them in jobs elsewhere in the games industry should they desire.”

Following Microsoft’s announcement of Fable Legends’ cancellation, Lionhead have detailed the closure on their forums. The game will continue to run until the 13th April 2016 for those with access to the closed beta and with no new applications being accepted going forward.

We at TPoW would like to wish good luck the teams at Lionhead and Press Play Studios in all of their future endeavours.
