The long-gestating big-screen adaptation of The Dark Tower has cast Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey.
Coming off the back of eight novels in the series written by the legendary Stephen King, the movie has a director in Nikolaj Arcel, and now boasts two of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors among its ranks. Elba will play Roland Deschain, while McConaughey will feature as Walter Padick, also known as The Man in Black.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Arcel said of Elba’s casting;
“For me, it just clicked. He’s such a formidable man. I had to go to Idris and tell him my vision for the entire journey with Roland. We discussed, who is this character? What’s he about? What’s his quest? What’s his psychology? We tried to figure out if we saw the same guy. And we absolutely had all the same ideas and thoughts. He had a unique vision for who Roland would be.”
And of McConaughey;
“Matthew is an incredible actor who can do anything. That’s how I feel about Walter Padick. He could do anything.”
The Dark Tower is due to be released on 13 January 2017.
