Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange might be soaking up Marvel’s 2016 hype, but it transpires that there is much to look forward to beyond the Cumberbatch cosmos. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 has taken its first steps into development, rehearsals for Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana and director James Gunn are underway.
The lid atop plot details – understandably – remains very firmly on, but perhaps it’s safe to expect the extraterrestrial sequel to provide answers to some pressing questions surrounding the previous 2014 adventure.
To mark Volume 2’s entry into early existence, Gunn released pictures capturing rehearsals, where he can be seen gesturing at a pseudo-Shakespearian Bautista, whilst Gunn’s brother Sean looks veritably thrilled hunkering down as a scale reference for Rocket Raccoon.
In the second image, on the other hand, we see the return of Ravager leader Yondu actor, Michael Rooker, with Kurt Russell hoped for, to fill the boots of Star Lord’s father in the upcoming film. Benicio del Toro also makes a surprising renaissance, although his reappearance is not expressly set in stone just yet.
Whilst the initial shots might give some tantalizing reassurance as to the film’s progression, there’s still a while to wait. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set to release on May 5 next year. Good thing there’s Civil War (May 6, 2016) and Doctor Strange (November 4 2016) to look forward to.
