WWE have announced the Fabulous Freebirds as the latest inductees into the 2016 Hall of Fame.
Known for being the most infamous heels in the Dallas territory, the group consisted of Michael “PS” Hayes, Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy and Buddy “Jack” Roberts, the trio initially dominated the Georgia area, becoming NWA National Tag-Team champions, during which time they introduced the Freebird Rule where any two members of the threesome could defend the titles, a rule still used in today’s product.
The highlight of the Freebirds’ career was no doubt the ultra-heated rivalry they had with the Von Erichs, beginning when Gordy slammed a cage door on Kerry Von Erich’s head during Kerry’s NWA World championship match with Ric Flair. This led to a war that raged through much of the 80’s in Texas.
After a brief stay in the WWF, and a spell in the Universal Wrestling Federation, where Gordy and Roberts won the World and Television titles respectively, the trio headed down south to WCW. This is where their ranks swelled with the addition of Jimmy “Jam” Garvin. By the end of their stay in WCW, the Freebirds had amassed reigns with the NWA World Tag Team titles, the United States Tag Team hampionship and a the Six-Man Tag Team titles.
It has not yet been announced who will induct the Freebirds.
