While many subscription services go to great lengths to avoid paid account holders sharing their details – and therefore saving potential subscribers signing up themselves – Netflix are happy for the sharing to continue.
Company CEO Reed Hastings admits that it’s a positive that a reported 46% of adults in the US share their account details, with the focus more on turning those who borrow details into eventual subscribers.
“We love people sharing Netflix, whether they’re two people on a couch or 10 people on a couch. That’s a positive thing, not a negative thing.”
The theory is that even with family accounts where everyone has their own profile on one subscribed account, kids will eventually grow up, move out and get their own account.
Netflix is now available in more than 190 countries, giving the streaming service more than ample room to significantly improve on their number of subscribers.
