Boris Johnson to launch London Games Festival

In order to promote video game development, The Mayor of London Boris Johnson is planning to start a £1.2 million mayoral strategy called Games London for the video games sector. On top of that, he is also launching a festival to coincide with Games London.

Games London is scheduled to be a 3 year program which aims to give the Game Sector a louder voice and hopefully gain more investment. The belief is that it will raise £35 million in new revenue for the games sector in the UK, which is a substantial amount. Not only that, but it will raise £10 million for the local economy, create around 300 jobs and introduce the BAFTA video game awards.

The announcement was delivered through a Minecraft video, which is definitely a nice touch. If the plan does go through, this will mean incredible things for UK game developers.
