WWE have announced the release of Brad Maddox.
Maddox, who last appeared on WWE TV during a backstage brawl between Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker on the July 20 Raw, was let go earlier today. PWInsider are reporting that the reason for the release was because of a promo that Maddox cut before a dark match at Tuesday’s Smackdown taping. Language used during the promo, specifically the term “cocky pricks”, upset WWE officials, leading to the decision to issue the release.
Maddox debuted on WWE TV as a referee in August 2012. He came to prominence at Hell in A Cell two months later when he cost Ryback the WWE Championship in his match with CM Punk, leading to several weeks of speculation that he was in cahoots with Punk and Paul Heyman. He was later named General Manager of Raw, a position he held for several months, before disappearing from TV, only working live events.
He recently appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, dressed as a turkey and getting a Tombstone from The Undertaker.
