Mark Hamill Admits Keeping Monumental Star Wars Secret

The Jedi master himself, Mark Hamill, a.k.a. Luke Skywalker, recently sat down with PC Gamer to discuss his return as the Joker in Batman: The Killing Joke, and unsurprisingly the subject of Star Wars: The Force Awakens came up.

One of the big talking points with regards to the Episode VII’s pre-release promotion is not what we’re seeing but more what we’re not. As I’m sure every fan has noticed by now, there is a distinct lack of any images or footage of original trilogy hero, Luke. Interestingly, the other members of the original cast, Leia, Han and Chewbacca all feature prominently, even Vader’s helmet gets some screen time, so where is the main man and what has he been up to for the last 30 years?

JJ Abrams recently went as far as to say that leaving Luke out wasn’t a mistake, so what is the secret that JJ and co are making us wait another month for?

Well, according to Hamill it’s monumental, revealing he is being paid a lot of money too keep a secret about the Force Awakens so big, it’ll make the “Luke, I am your father’ reveal seem insignificant in comparison.

“I have something coming out where there’s an amount of money that if it leaks, because of me, I don’t get that payment” Hamill said. “I’m good about keeping secrets, I’m proud of the fact that I knew a year and a half before anybody else that he was actually dad Vader.” The Star Wars actor added: “Now it’s happening all over again. I’m not even authorised to tell you I’m in Episode VII, it’s all secret.”

Could Luke be revealed as the bad guy? Is he dead and shown on-screen as a force ghost? Is he secretly rebuilding the Jedi community? Has he really grown a beard? With Hamill remaining tightlipped we’ll just have to wait until December 17 to find out.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released in cinemas on December 17 in the UK and December 18 worldwide.
