It appears that Terminator: Genisys‘ poor box office performance has caused a change of heart as it relates to plans to launch a Marvel-style new universe for the franchise.
The Hollywood Reporter are claiming that the planned two sequels to the movie, plus a TV show, have been put on hold “indefinately”, according to sources.
Genisys opened to an underwhelming $27m domestic taking on it’s opening weekend, though it did fare better overseas. China, especially, was a big success for the movie, where it made $112m. However, given the $150m it took to make the film, the planned first entry in a new trilogy will lose money.
Terminator: Genisys starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke and Jai Courtney.
