Fans love it when an actor reprises a role from the past, even when it’s in a completely different version of the role. One recent example is Mark Hamill playing the Trickster in The Flash, a role he is set to reprise once more in the new series.
One of the more obscure reprisals, though, was announced at New York Comic Con this past weekend with the announcement that Paul Reubens had been cast as Penguin’s father in TV show Gotham. Batfans will no doubt be aware that this isn’t the first time he has played the role, 23 years ago he played the character in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns.
Actor Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Penguin on the drama, announced the casting at the show’s New York Comic Con panel on Sunday afternoon.
“So we’re all familiar with Oswald’s mother, the fabulous, fabulous Carol Kane,” the actor said leading up to the news. “We don’t know a lot about his father… We just found out that I do have a father. And he will be showing up very soon, and he will be played by none other than Paul Reubens, a.k.a. Pee-wee Herman! He’s playing my dad! What! The! Hell!”
Gotham season 2 is currently airing in the US on Fox. No exact UK premiere air date has been announced yet.
