With Captain America: Civil War rapidly approaching, and Doctor Strange coming over the horizon, one Marvel production that has fallen under the radar somewhat is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Following the monster success of the first film, all eyes are going to be on James Gunn to see what he can do with the follow-up, and with production due to begin next year, casting is well underway to add to an already-stellar cast that includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista.
However, one name that won’t be joining that list, it seems, will be Matthew McConaughey. According to a report on Latino Review, the actor has turned down a role as the key villain, though it does not state who the villain is.
One person that does appear to be on board, however, is Pom Klementieff. Best known for her role in Spike Lee’s adaptation of Oldboy – ironically alongside Josh Brolin, who of course now takes us residence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thanos – Klementieff is rumoured to be playing Mantis. For those unfamiliar with the character’s history, Mantis is a psychic martial artist who has ties to the Kree. She featured strongly in the Secret Invasion comic series, linked closely with Thanos.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on 5 May 2017.
