With Marvel announcing another round of release dates last week, many are now asking, “Where does Hulk fit into the bigger picture?”. With confirmation that Mark Ruffalo will not be appearing in Captain American: Civil War, it seemed as though that question would remain unanswered for some time.
Until now, as according to reports from JoBlo, Hulk is set to team up with his favourite sparring partner Thor for the Asgardian end of days in Thor: Ragnarok.
“Ruffalo is on board. As to how much time he’ll spend as Hulk vs. Banner, we can’t say, only that he’s absolutely part of the supporting cast and will feature prominently.”
The last time we saw Ruffalo in the Marvel Universe was at the end of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, in which we saw his Hulk flying off toward an unspecified destination before crash landing in the ocean. Ever since, the future of the jolly green Avenger has been speculated with many fans theorising that Hulk was heading into outer space for Planet Hulk.
While Marvel officials have distanced themselves from that particular storyline, there is a possibility that if Ruffalo does star in Ragnarok, Marvel could use the film as a way to work in the long-rumored adaptation that would set Ruffalo up with his own film.
If the “inside source” is accurate then, given the likelihood of Tom Hiddleston’s return, Thor: Ragnarok has the potential to not only set in motion the events leading up to Avengers: Infinity War but also be one of the most amusing Marvel movies to date given the relationship between Hulk and the two Asgardians.
At the time of posting, Marvel are yet to confirm whether the report is true so it’s worth taking the news with a pinch of salt.
Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to be released on July 28, 2017.
