Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill have confirmed, and discussed, the opening scene in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Talking to Total Film, the Bats and Supes actors revealed the movie’s opening shots, some of which were actually seen in the trailer released earlier this year. Taking place during the Superman-Zod battle at the end of Man of Steel, Bruce Wayne is shown running towards a Wayne building that is destroyed, and as Cavill explains, this is what leads to Bruce suiting up as the Dark Knight.
“What happens there is one of Bruce’s buildings gets destroyed and he’s trying to save all the people inside the building and he can’t. So he is this angry person who fears what Superman may do. Why are they just going to trust this super-powered alien? What if he does decide to turn against us?”
Affleck reaffirms this, adding that the destruction of Metropolis at the end of Man of Steel had led to a rage inside Wayne towards Superman;
“He’s found himself in a place of harboring a tremendous amount of rage for Superman. So it’s how he got there, and what that’s done to him, and what that’s done to people around him like Alfred, who are, I think, very scared and worried for him. It’s something that’s interesting and new.”
Dawn of Justice premieres on 25 March 2016.
