With all the focus on the much-hyped new iPhones, Apple have sprung a surprise by unveiling the iPad Pro.
Firmly moving out of the standard tablet market, the mammoth Pro model comes in at 12.9 inches, markedly bigger than the 9.7 inch iPad and the 7.9 inch iPad mini.
Featuring an impressive 5.6 million pixels and running a third-gen A9 processor, the new slate offers users – according the Apple – desktop-level power that betters 80% of portable PCs that have been sold in the last year.
Size-wise, the tablet is 6.9mm thick and weighs 1.57lbs, only 0.03lbs heavier than the original iPad, unbelievably. Battery life has also been worked on, with the Pro boasting a 10 hour life.
With a new device comes new accessories, and they are some pretty substantial accessories;
Starting with the Apple Pencil, a stylus that comes with it’s own integrated battery that can charged by being plugged into the Lightning port on the tablet. And if the larger screen appeals to the writers out there, then the Smart Keyboard Case is just the thing for you.
Taking the stage to announce the new device, Apple CEO Tim Cook said;
“iPad is the clearest expression for our vision of the future of personal computing. A simple, multi touch piece of glass that instantly transform into virtually anything you want it to be. Today, we have the biggest news in iPad, since the iPad.”
The Pro also comes with an 8MP camera on the rear and a FaceTime camera on the front, as well as a four-speaker set-up.
Featured in three colour – silver, gold and space grey – this one is going to hit your wallets; the 32GB model will retail at $799, while the 128GB option will set you back £939. As far as the accessories go, the Apple Pencil will cost $99 while the Smart Keyboard comes in at $179.
UK pricing has yet to be announced, and the device launches in November.
