It seems Bill Murray ain’t afraid of no reboot.
Famous for playing Dr. Peter Venkman in both Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989), Murray is to make a cameo appearance in Paul Feig’s upcoming franchise reboot.
With Dan Aykroyd already confirmed to appear, Murray will be the second actor from the original cast to make an appearance in the new movie. It has already been confirmed that Aykroyd will not be playing his original character, Ray, in the movie and will instead play a cab driver. Though Murray’s role is yet to be confirmed, it’s a safe bet to say we’re unlikely to see Venkman in the movie.
The news comes as something of a surprise given Murray has long been resistant to returning to the beloved franchise, causing a number of attempts to make a third Ghostbusters movie to fail. He told David Letterman earlier this year that his hesitancy stems from Ghostbusters II not having been as well-received as the first one.
Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters movie, which is currently filming, stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth and is due for release on July 22, 2016.
