Despite Star Trek Beyond, the third movie in the rebooted franchise, still over a year away, Paramount are already making plans for a fourth movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount recently completed deals with stars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto that will see both actors returning to the bridge of the Enterprise for Star Trek 4.
The report claims that Pine alone is expected to make $6 million from Star Trek 4, ten times his fee for 2009’s Star Trek.
Production on Star Trek Beyond has only recently begun but given the popularity of the two previous movies, Paramount obviously have a lot of faith in new director Justin Lin’s ability to carry on what JJ Abrams started. Abrams is of course currently working on the other sci-fi franchise behemoth Star Wars: The Force Awakens and his commitments to that mean that he is now only involved in Star Trek as a producer.
Penned by Doug Jung and self-confessed Trekkie Simon Pegg (who also plays Scotty), Star Trek Beyond will reportedly feature Idris Elba as the main villain of the piece, though no plot details have been officially confirmed.
While we await confirmation of the deals and another Star Trek movie coming in the future, we do have Star Trek Beyond to look forward to which is due for release on July 8, 2016
