Marvel Studios has officially reveals that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D season 3 will be introducing characters inspired by the Secret Warriors comic book series when the show returns later this year.
For those not familiar with the comics, Secret Warriors saw Nick Fury’s protégé Daisy “Quake” Johnson (played by Chloe Bennett as Skye in the TV show) leading a secret team of young, powered operatives on missions for S.H.I.E.L.D.
Since the series 2 mid-season finale, the show has been hinting that this storyline was coming, from Skye becoming “Quake”, up to the very end of the season when Coulson (Clark Gregg), filling in as mentor in this universe, hands her a folder labelled “Caterpillars,” said to contain details of her next mission.
With the Inhumans now taking a possible backseat in the MCU, season 3 will see Coulson and Skye travelling the world and recruiting “enhanced” people to form the on-screen version of the Secret Warriors team.
In early June it was announced that Luke Mitchell had joined the cast as a regular for the new season. Mitchell played inhuman Lincoln in season 2 and had a pivotal part in Skye’s transition from S.H.I.E.L.D. agent to powered being. With that in mind it’s not unreasonable to assume that Mitchell will play a key role in the Secret Warriors storyline, maybe even becoming one of the founding members.
Keeping the hype train in full swing over the summer before the series airs, Marvel will have a dedicated Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D team at this years San Diego Comic-Con interacting with the fans on the ground, follow the official Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Twitter account for more info on that.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 premieres in the US on September 29th. There is currently no official date for the UK premiere but based on previous years, we can expect this in early October if not sooner.
