To the surprise of no-one, the first trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has been officially released.
Originally set to debut in IMAX cinemas on Monday, plans were scuppered when the teaser leaked online. It was expected by most that Warner would respond with an HD version, and now director Zack Snyder has tweeted the footage. He has also revealed that the planned IMAX screenings will still go ahead and appeared to suggest that extra shots will be included.

Starting with a voiceover from Jeremy Irons’ Alfred talking about good men turning crawl, the 2-minute clip shows what appears to be the people of Metropolis turning on Superman (possibly in response to that pretty big amount of damage he did last time out with Zod) and Ben Affleck’s Batman stepping forward to take on Clark Kent’s spectacle-less superhero.
The end of the the trailer gives us the shot that those in attendance at last year’s Comic Con got to see; the glowing white eyes in Bat-Armour, likely a nod towards Frank Millar’s The Dark Knight Returns, a book Snyder has previously admitted acts as a major inspiration for this film. Additionally, a quick shot of Batman in this trailer displays a noticeably-bulkier Caped Crusader, again mirroring Wayne in the seminal comic book.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Jeremy Irons, Amy Adams and Jesse Eisenberg, and will be released on 25 March 2016.
