While some would argue that the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has reached it’s nadir, a total grossing thus far of $3.7 billion would suggest that there is still some interest in Jack Sparrow and his comedic adventures. For those, then, it will good news today as Disney have confirmed that production on Pirates 5 – Dead Men Tell No Tales – started this week in Queensland, Australia.
Johnny Depp, of course, returns in the lead role, along with Geoffrey Rush, Kevin R McNally and Stephen Graham. No Country for Old Men and Skyfall star Javier Barden has also been confirmed for the picture.
Disney have also released a synposis;
“Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea… including him.
“Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artefact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.”
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is scheduled to be released on 7 July 2017
