Kodi Smit-McPhee joins X-Men: Apocalypse

The X-Men movie franchise may have had a lease of new life thanks to the Days of Future Past’s conclusion, but it looks like we could be seeing the return of a familiar face… and a blue one at that. Director Bryan Singer has revealed via his Instagram account that Kodi Smit-McPhee (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Let Me In) has been signed to play a young version of Kurt Wagner – AKA Nightcrawler, in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Nightcrawler has been strangely absent from the X-Men series of films over the years, following a favoured portrayal of the character from Alan Cumming in 2003’s X2.

Kodi Smit-McPhee will now join the cast of  James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Oscar Isaac, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp and Ian McKellen for X-Men: Apocalypse, which is slated for release on the 27th May 2016.
