Facebook To Allow Users to Choose What Happens to Their Profile After Death

Facebook are to introduce the option to allow users’ to choose what will happen to their profile following their demise.

The social network have announced that users will be able to designate a ‘legacy’ contact who will be able to run and maintain the profile after the user is deceased.

For those of you who are high on privacy, Facebook has given assurances that the legacy contacts will be able to see posts and photos, but not private messages. Additionally, the site say that if a person has not been nominated online, but the same job has been asked of them in a will, Facebook will honour those wishes.

Currently, a member’s page is frozen after their death but starting soon – in the US first, with other countries to follow shortly after – users will see option start appearing from today.
