Disney XD is set to bring back the popular 80’s cartoon series DuckTales.
According to Deadline, the network has confirmed that it has ordered a new animated series based on the award winning series which originally aired from 1987-1990 and even led to a feature length movie.
Set for a 2017 launch, the new series will again follow the adventures of millionaire miser Scrooge McDuck and his grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie and introduce Donald Duck as a regular addition.
The reboot will also benefit from new versions of the extended cast of characters including; Clumsy pilot Launchpad MCquack (Last seen in the 90s as sidekick to Darkwing Duck), Duckworth, Gyro Gearloose, Flintheart Glomgold, Mrs Beakley, Webbigail and villians from the original the Beagle Boys, Magica DeSpell & Poe.
Drawing inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks’ comics and with a hint of Indiana Jones (which Disney now own), Ducktales set the standard for Disney animated entertainment on TV and led to something of a golden age in the 90’s with shows like Talespin, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck.
Marc Buhaj, SVP of Programming and General Manager for Disney XD, has assured long time fans of the original that “our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation”.
Between now and 2017 you can get your DuckTales fix via Netflix in the form of DuckTales: The Movie or on DVD.
