The much anticipated Deadpool movie has added a new cast member to their line up with former MMA fighter Gina Carano signing on.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Carano will play Angel Dust in Fox’s X-Men spin-off. Very little is known at this point as to how important the character will be to the story, though in the comics the character is part of an underground group of outcast mutants called the Morlocks, named after the subterranean group from H.G. Wells’ Time Machine.
The comic version of the Morlocks are less than friendly, having had several run-ins with the X-Men for their treatment of normal humans so it is possible that these may be the group that Deadpool will be taking on in the movie, though given Deadpool’s famously unpredictable nature it could go either way.
The “Merc with the mouth” himself, Ryan Reynolds, has been doing doing everything he can to keep Deadpool in the spotlight, recently tweeting a photo on the prototype suit for the movie.
Reynolds of course appeared as the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, though the version that film depicted was not well-received, to say the least. Recently the actor has insisted that this new film will be a lot more faithful to the comics.
Also signed up for the movie is T.J. Miller as the comedy sidekick, most recently heard as the voice of Fred in Big Hero 6. Game Of Thrones’ Ed Skrein is reportedly in the running to play the villian of the piece, though no specifics on that character have been revealed yet.
Deadpool will release on 12 February 2016.
