As Marvel news has been a bit shy recently, well apart from Agent Carter news and the mammoth phase three announcement yesterday that is, it was about time we got some more footage from their next big budget super-flick, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and Marvel never like to disappoint their fans.
The extended trailer features an almost complete scene from the movie, the very scene in fact that was shown in Hall H at this years San Diego comic-con.
In the new footage, the Avengers take turns trying to lift Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. After Hawkeye mocks the hammer’s inscription “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor“, Tony tries his hand at lifting it.
Failing at his first attempt he dons one of Iron Man’s gauntlets for a second failed attempt before bringing War Machine in to help, but again, it doesn’t work.
Finally, Cap takes his turn….and the hammer budges, just.
Could this be a hint at a later point in the movie? The trailer gives us some clue in a brief scene where we see Thor lying on the ground next to Cap’s broken shield, is Rogers worthy to wield Mjolnir?
This theory isn’t as unlikely as it may seem as there are two occasions in the comics where Captain America has used Thor’s hammer.
Another interesting quote is Tony Stark’s reference to the hammer being accessible to anyone with Thor’s fingerprints. This could be another wink to the comics as during the Civil War comic series Stark helped to create a cyborg clone of Thor named, Ragnarok. With Marvel confirming the subtitles of Captain America 3 as Civil War and Thor 3 as Ragnarok this is definitely a possibility for future story-lines.
Some exciting prospects but we will have to wait until next Spring to find out.
Marvel’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron is out 24th April 2015 in the UK and 1st May 2015 in the US.
