Gamescom: Sierra is Back

Following a teaser video from Activision last week, news from gamescom confirms that the classic games developer Sierra is back and they’re bringing same beloved titles with them.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions is a new entry into the series from Lucid Games – which has been formed from former Bizarre Creation Developers. Unlike former Geometry Wars titles, this newest iteration will be 3D rather than 2D. Also unlike its previous games, title creator Stephen Cakebread will not be involved in its creation.

Geometry Wars 3 will be release later this year.

More exciting than Geometry Wars however (to me anyway), is confirmation that a new King’s Quest is due for release in 2015. This long awaited ninth installment into the (more than thirty year old) series, is said to once again focus on King Graham as he tells stories of his adventures to his Granddaughter.

Ever since 2001 there have been three failed attempts to create King’s Quest IX from Vivendi Games, Silicon Knights and more recently Telltale Games, all of which were cancelled before heading into production.

With the news of Sierra’s redirection, let’s hope we see some more classics making their way back onto the scene. Empire Earth, Space Quest or Leisure Suit Larry anyone?
